In the article linguistic behaviour of residents of a part Olesno district has been presented. The above mentioned area (excluding the communes of Praszka and Rudniki) historically belongs to Silesia. In the survey two methods have been applied: firstly, that of a questionnaire, in which respondents declared the use of an appropriate language code depending on the communicative situation, and -secondly-the method of direct observation. In both cases the achieved results are generally consistent.
